DC South Andaman inaugurates Atal Tinkering Lab at GSSS Scholl Line

Port Blair, Jan 06: Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (SA) inaugurated the Atal Tinkering Lab at Govt. Senior Secondary School, School Line in a solemn function held in the school premises.

In this connection, a Science exhibition was also organised in the School in which students from class 09th to 12th showcased various models like Hydroelectric power plant, water overflow sensor, line follower robots, solar power plant, hand sanitizer for Covid-19 etc.

The Atal Innovation Mission with a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators’, is establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across India. The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc.

ATL is a work space where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills. Young children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). ATL would contain educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on – science, electronics, robotics, open source microcontroller boards, sensors and 3D printers and computers. Other desirable facilities include meeting rooms and video conferencing facility.

Appreciating the models and innovations put forward by the students of the School, the DC (SA) urged the School Principal and students to go in the field in and around Port Blair to see how the scientific principles are being applied in day to day life to solve societal issues.

He further assured all kinds of support of the District Administration to the School in taking up any such innovative ideas in the future.
