Eye testing camp for employees of Transport Department

Port Blair, Feb 12: National Road Safety Month is being observed from 18th January 2021 to 17th Feburary 2021. In this regard an Eye Testing Camp  was organised for the employees of Transport Department which included drivers, conductors and other employees of the Department on 12th  Feburary 2021 with the support of DHS & ANIIMS Port Blair. Inaugarating the session the Chief guest Dr. Navlendra Kumar Singh, Director (Transport) applauded the outstanding achievement of the Department in last three years 2018-19, 2019-20 & 2020-21  for receiving the Transport Minister’s Road Safety Award for State Transport Undertakings (STUs) with “Lowest Accident Record”  and wished the employees to continue their performance and excel in all spheres. He stressed that sound vision & healthy eye is very essential to avert road accidents, and hence the Department has organized this camp. The Director (Transport) also gave away the certificate of appreciation to the employees who had voluntarily donated their Blood in the Blood Donation camp organized by the Department. He also appeeled all present to adhere to the road safety laws in letter and sprit and good health to prevent any road accident. The Deputy Director Transport welcomed all present especially Dr Archan and his team  who accepted the request of the Department for conducting the Eye Camp. He stressed the importance of organising the eye testing camp as a part of Road Safety Month. Dr Archan Das from ANIIMS said that Tranport Department is crucial in ensuring mobility in the Islands. The drivers, conductors and employees of this Department play a vital role in the society as they ensure that the citizens reach their home workplace & desired destinations safely. He highlighted the importance of eye care and the need for eye testing especially for those with hypertension and Diabetes should test their eyes once in six months because it is one of the major cause for depletion in vision and sometimes the  loss of vision is irreversible.
