NGOs’ Association demands probe on the accident which killed a young teacher

Port Blair, Jan 03: The Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Shri S.Mahesh, a young Primary School Teacher attached to the Education Department in a dreadful accident by a heavily laden truck.He was a permanent resident of Bambooflat presently posted at Car Nicobar and just aged 27. A promising life was cut short suddenly at around 12 noon on 31-12-2020 in the slope from Bengali club to Light house junction.He left behind his wife and a child. The reason for the accident is reported as unfit condition of the truck and negligence of the authorities, the NGGOA said.The NGGO Association alleged that the transport department and traffic police are always reluctant to implement various safety rules and traffic rules on Public careers and Cargo trucks.“Most of these public careers and cargo trucks are very old vehicles imported from mainland and is always a threat to life and property of public. The Association expressed strong concern on repetition of such incidents and demand an enquiry into illegal dealings behind granting of fitness to such old and unfit vehicles which are plying in these islands,” a release said here.
