Port Blair, Feb 01: Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) coordinated the Voluntary Blood Donation camp which was organized by Office of the Dy. Superintendent of Police (Traffic), A & N Islands at conference hall of Police Station, Aberdeen, Port Blair on 30th January 2021 regarding observance of National Road Safety month from 18th January to 17th February 2021. A total of 45 Police personnel from various units of A & N Police voluntarily donated blood and participated for this noble cause.
Mr. Ajay Kumar Rai. DANIPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police (Traffic) inaugurated the camp.
The camp was organized under the leadership of Dr M. Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands.
The Blood Donation was facilitated by the Dr. Shahina Mustaquim, Grade – II, Microbiologist, C.H.S, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation. Voluntary Blood donation is the best way to celebrate any occasion. Blood has no replacement and is the best gift to mankind.
Message : The attending voluntary blood donors were told about how the
department is maintaining blood safety by screening the donated blood units for Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTIs) which includes HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, Malaria and other infective agents.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units are screened for the blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility. Donors certificate were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
