24 Food Business Operators were found selling Gutkha, Pan Masala, Khaini and scented tinned tobacco

Port Blair, July 20: Continuing with the action in compliance of the District Magistrate Order to prohibit manufacture, storage, distribution and sale on all forms of processed/flavoured/scented chewing tobacco, whether going by the name of Gutkha, Pan masala, Zarda packed and unpacked/loose etc. which contain tobacco and or nicotine as an ingredient in the entire District of South Andaman, the Officials of Food Safety Department of District Administration conducted surprise raids in the last few days in and around Ferrargunj& Port Blair area. Altogether 133 Food Business premises were checked and out of which 24 Food Business Operators were found selling Gutkha, Pan Masala, Khaini and scented tinned tobacco containing tobacco or nicotine were seized from their possession. Punitive actions as deemed fit are being initiated against the violators. 

The District Magistrate, South Andaman District has again sternly warned all concerned to refrain from sale of tobacco products and also requested the general to deter from spitting in public places to contain the spread of COVID-19. The general public have been requested to lodge complaints, if any, on toll free No.1077, 03192-236168.
