72nd Van Mahotsav programme held at Biological Park, Chidiyatapu

Port Blair, July 12: To celebrate the 72nd Van Mahotsav, “Vriksha Ropan ” was conducted in and around of Biological Park, Chidiyatapu on 12th July, 2021. The programme was graced by Dr. Sathish Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer, Manglutan, staff & workers of Biological Park, Chidiyatapu. Indigenious fruit bearing forest species such as Bakul, Khatta Phal, Ficus, Noni, Kala Lakri & Tendu saplings were planted over the blank patch near Biological Park, Chidiyatapu. This species bears large quantities of fruits consumed by frugivore bird species. Similarly, local fruit bearing species like Papaya, Guava, Jackfruit, Banana, Beri and tapioca were planted inside the Biological park area to meet the food demand of Caged Animals and Birds and to make the Biological park self Sustainable. All together 100 numbers of fruit bearing species were planted.

On this occasion Mr. A. C. Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park is highlighted the significance of planting such fruit bearing species for the Avifauna of Chidiyatapu area. Smti Dhana lakshmy, Forester thanks all the participants and pledges to raise more such plantations in and around Biological park in coming days.
