7th International Day of Yoga by AnSI

Port Blair, June 21: Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair has celebrated the 7th International Day of Yoga.

The theme of this year’s Yoga Day is Yoga for wellness, which focuses on practicing Yoga for both physical and mental well being.

Uniting entire country through Yoga is a good endeavour initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. The Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre is grateful being selected for sharing this responsibility of Uniting India. We express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gauri Basu, Director, EZCC & Director, AnSI, Kolkata for giving all the encouragement, guidance and support to make the programme a great success.  

International Day of Yoga 2021 was celebrated in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, (EZCC) Kolkata on 21 June , 2021 at 07:00 AM in the office premise of Anthropological Survey of India, Port Blair. The inauguration was done with the lighting of traditional lamp by Shri Sanjeev Kumar Mittal, IAS, Secretary, Planning/Economics and Stat, Andaman Administration. In this august gathering, the dignitaries present were, Shri Murali Krishna, CGM, BSNL, Port Blair, Dr Kalyan P Kadbhane, Deputy Director, AYUSH, Directorate of Health Services, Dr A Sudarshan, Medical Officer (Ayurveda, DHS, Dr. Sabita Biswas (Medical Officer), Homeopathy, DHS, Shri Sundaram, Director , Doordarshan were present .

(The Celebration of International Day of Yoga  2021 was celebrated on 21st June, 2021 at selected places as decided by the  Ministry of Culture by organizing a campaign named “ Yoga an Indian Heritage” in 75 different heritage/historical sites. Out of 75 locations, 30 sites have been selected where a live streaming of the Yoga event was run on all the digital platforms of the Ministry of Culture. In this connection, Andaman & Nicobar Regional centre was selected as one of the nodal organization to organize the “International Day of Yoga” on 21st June, 2021, where yoga class was arranged followed by a cultural programme organised by EZCC, at Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, AnSI, Port Blair following the COVID-19 related SOP guidelines.)

The cultural programme was arranged by EZCC (Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre), Kolkata in association and collaboration with ANRC (Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre), Port Blair. The cultural events which were performed by the artists of M J Music Academy, Port Blair were: Nicobarese Folk song, Ranchi Folk Dance, Patriotic Song and Patriotic dance,  Nicobarese Folk Dance, Patriotic dance, Bharatnatyam and ended up with a dance based on the beauty of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Yoga session was demonstrated by yoga instructors of AYUSH Hospital Mr Gunasekhar and Ms Munmun Biswas. A total of 20 participants including the staff members of Anthropological Survey of India, Port Blair and other distinguished guests who are invited participated in the Yoga session. A Live streaming of whole programme was covered by the Media Cell, Ministry of Culture and broadcasted in different digital platform. Yoga event 7.00AM -7.45 AM

It may also be noted that the SOP guidelines for COVID-19 issued by the Govt of India / Andaman Administration is strictly followed by the organizer.
