Port Blair, Aug 23: The Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) is an attempt to make the rural areas socially, economically and physically sustainable regions. The Mission strives to strengthen rural areas by providing economic, social and infrastructure amenities.
In A & N Islands, the Administration has selected Ferrargunj Block as the Rurban Cluster and the Directorate of RD/PRIs has been designated as State Nodal Agency (SNA). The Integrated Cluster Action Plan (ICAP) has been prepared and approved by the Ministry of Rural Development.
In this regard, the Detailed Project Report (DPR Template) consisting of 109 Projects amounting to Rs. 106.56 Cr. (74 Projects under Convergence Component amounting to Rs 76.56 Cr. and 35 Projects under Critical Gap Fund (CGF) amounting to Rs 30.00 Cr. has been prepared and approved by the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) chaired by the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration).
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department has been able to complete the upgradation of 3 modern Gymnasiums in Chouldari, Mithakhari and Tushnabad Gram Panchayats and these are ready for use. With the continuous effort and support of other stakeholders, the Department has been able to start 2 works on ground under CGF i.e. C/o HDPE Floating Jetty and footpath beside seashore area (Veer Savarkar Park) at Chouldari and additional work for Fish Landing Centre at Guptapara. Supply order have been issued for installation of 8 Water ATMs.
Further, the rest of the works/projects are in tendering/work awarding stage, which will be implemented soon, a press release from Secretary, Rural Development said.
