CIARI Agromet Advisory For Farmers

Port Blair, Aug 28: Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) has predicted that cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur during next five days in the North and Middle Andaman. 142 mm of rainfall is expected during this period in these islands. The maximum temperature in North and Middle Andaman will be 30 degree Celsius with minimum temperature of 25 degree Celsius, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 80 to 83 % and 76 to 78 % respectively in North and Middle Andaman. Wind speed of 23 to 33 km/h is expected from South Westerly direction.
South Andaman is likely to witness cloudy weather with moderate rainfall during next five days. In South Andaman 116 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature in South Andaman will be 30 degree Celsius with minimum temperature of 25 degree Celsius, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 80 to 81 %, and 77 to 78 % respectively in South Andaman. Wind speed of 25 to 35 km/h is expected from South Westerly direction.
Under these weather conditions, Rice Farmers of the North, Middle and South Andaman have been advised by CIARI to keep the bund of rice main field open at 10 cm height and keep the drainage clean to facilitate draining of water. Vegetable growers of these islands must avoid intercultural operation in the vegetable field as moderate rainfall is expected. Cattle owners may contact local veterinary doctors for vaccination against foot and mouth disease to cow and buffalo.
Nicobar district is likely to witness cloudy weather with moderate rainfall during next five days. 49 mm of rainfall is expected during this period in this district. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 31 degree Celsius with minimum temperature of 24 to 25 degree Celsius, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be 80 to 83 %, and 79 to 80 %, respectively in Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 23 to 31 km/h is expected from South Westerly direction.
Under these weather conditions, CIARI has suggested that Cow, buffalo and goat owners of the Nicobar Islands must provide anthelmintic treatment to adult animals (Cow, buffalo and goat) with the consultation of local veterinary doctors. After the treatment, feed them sprouted Bengal gram @100 gm/adult cattle and @ 25 gm/adult goat for three days.
