Civil Society and District Administration organises Blood Donation Camp

Port Blair, May 31: A blood donation camp was conducted at GB Pant Hospital by the District Administration in coordination with Civil Society Organisation to address the shortage of blood in the blood Bank of the Hospital.

This matter was brought to the knowledge of District Administration as due to the prevailing pandemic situation most of the voluntary blood donors were not coming forward to donate blood.

Taking gravity of the situation, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, Deputy Commissioner (SA) took up the matter on priority and discussed with Civil Society Organisations and accordingly a strategy was envisaged whereby a list of willing donors ready to donate blood to the blood bank was prepared in coordination with Transport department and Civil Society Organisations such as Friends to Support, Yuva Bharath Samaj Seva Trust and Hindu Rashtra Sabha. Following this the DC(SA) made all the arrangements with the line departments for the movement of the donors from their respective homes to the blood bank for donation and prospective donors were brought to GB pant.

The District Administration will continue to hold such camps in the future also to augment the shortage of blood in the blood bank which would be instrumental in saving precious lives. The DC(SA) further requested other Civil Society Organisations to come forward in this regard as and when required.
