Port Blair, Mar 28: Indian Coast Guard conducted Community Interaction Programme at Dignabaad Govt School Hall on 26 Mar 21 with local fishermen and their families and representatives from fisheries department. During the CIP, 50-55 fishermen alongwith their families were present. During the course of conduct Asst Comdt Atul Kumar Verma and Rakesh Kumar, Adhikari addressed the gathering about Search and Rescue set up in India, especially in Port Blair and explained various precautionary measures to be followed while venturing out for fishing. The fishermen-were enlightened on effective usage of SAR toll free number 1554. Theoretical briefing was followed by practical demonstration of Safety Equipment. The fishermen were also exhorted to carry life saving gears such as life jackets etc.
As part of awareness creating measure regarding the great freedom fighters of our country who were housed in cellular jail prior independence, a brief on Shreeman Pandit Parmanand, Shreeman Trialokyanath Chakravarthy and Shreeman Sher Ali was presented to the local gathered for the CIP. During the interactive CIP the local fishermen were requested to co-operate with Coast Guard & PMF during verification of documents at sea. Fishermen are the crucial elements of Search and Rescue. They were also made aware of their role in coastal security and were urged to report any commemorate and take inspiration from the great deeds of these freedom fighters.suspicious activities happening around in their areas. They were assured that prompt action will be initiated on receipt of any vital information. Fishermen were also directed to carry proper Identity cards and display Indian flag for positive identification by security forces.
Over whelming participation of ladies was visible during the CIP. The inquisitiveness prevailing amongst the families of fishermen to understand the sea safety standard was encouraging wherein community interaction programme progressed to community integration where the families were also encouraged to guide their men specially carrying the life safety gears prior venturing to sea.
At the end of the CIP, the fishermen reiterated their commitment for extending all assistance as necessary for strengthening of coastal security mechanism. Such CIPs not only enlightened the fishermen community for exercising all life safety criteria prior proceeding to sea but also aided in establishing better and strong bonding between fishermen community and ICG
