Double Murder in Port Blair; Police Cracks Case within Few Hours

Port Blair, July 09: On 8th July, 2021 at about 2125 hrs, an information was received at PS Aberdeen that two persons were lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the Gandhi Market complex. On this, a team of PS Aberdeen rushed to the spot and identified the two persons as Shankar @ Chennai Mistry, (45)yrs, an Auto Mechanic based at Gandhi market and K. Arumugam S/o Kali Kujan (40)yrs, R/o Brookshabad. The crime scene was secured and all the evidences were lifted and seized scientifically. Then, a key evidence in the form of CCTV footage was obtained from a nearby shop. Acting swiftly on this lead, multiple search teams were formed to nab the accused.

Within a few hours, the dedicated staff of PS Aberdeen apprehended the accused Abdul Azeem and recovered the weapon used for committing the murder at the instance of the accused. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were brutally beaten to death with a metal pipe by the accused Abdul Azeem following a verbal altercation. The accused has previous criminal antecedents and is a vagabond of the same area. The accused was remanded to 14 Days judicial custody and further investigation of the case is in progress. The entire investigation took place under the direct supervision of SDPO South Andaman, ASP Kalaivanan R, IPS.

It is to re-iterate that CCTV cameras installed at various shops in the Gandhi Market complex played a key role in cracking the case. Hence, it is appealed to the general public especially owners of all commercial establishments and market associations to install CCTV cameras in their premises which help improve the safety and security of property and human lives.
