Port Blair, Feb 28: A & N State Social Welfare Board in collaboration with State Bank of India, Garacharma organizes an awareness on financial inclusion program for women empowerment in Andaman on 26/02/2019 at 3.30 PM in the auditorium of DIES, Garacharama. The programme was attended by Smt. Rubana Aziz, Councillor, Ward No. 18, Smt. Poonam Arrora, Chairperson, SWAB, Smt. Gurujith Kaur, Extension Officer, NRLM, officers from SBI, SHGs and citizens of Ward No. 18. While welcoming the gathering Smt. Rubana Aziz, Councillor, highlighted the importance of the programme. She further exhorted that the financial inclusion helps women in social and economic development as it creates or gives awareness about various programmes which aims at health, education, and legal rights. Savings are important for women to build security and to decrease vulnerability.
Speaking on the occasion Smt. Poonam Arrora, Chairperson, SWAB also highlighted the schemes being implemented by the Govt. for the women empowerment. Financial inclusion is delivery of banking services at an affordable cost to the vast sections of low-income groups and SHGs. The various financial services include access to saving, credit, bank account etc. The access to financial services helps women in their social and economic development. The government Of India announced Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, a national financial inclusion mission which aims to provide bank accounts to the people.
Through various methods by banks, government tries to make women economically independent. Financial inclusion makes women informed about their role and right in economic development and other information for empowerment.
