Port Blair, Jan 09: During the A&N Police Raising Week, First Dr. B Srikant Memorial Half- Marathon was organised by the Nicobar police under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India and Athletics Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the “YUVA” initiative of A&N Police. Nicobar District Police is organizing this event in memory of Former Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District Late Dr. B. Srikant, IPS, who passed away during his tenure in Nicobar District in the year 2013.
This marathon is being organized with an aim to promote “Fit India” and “Khelo India” campaign of Govt. of India. “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” and ‘Run for the Brave’ are the tag lines of the half marathon. The half Marathon has dual aims of not only highlighting the cause of women empowerment and their rights but also sacrifices being made by our brave police and armed forces for the nation.

The Chief Guest of the event will be the Director General of Police, A&N Islands Shri. Dependra Pathak, IPS accompanied by other senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police. Around 1000 participants from all the Islands of Nicobar District are expected to participants in the event. There are multiple prizes for top finishers in each category of the race e.g Half Marathon, 10 k and 5 k.
