Grand celebration of RathYatra at Diglipur

Port Blair, Jul 03: After a gap of two years, this year the RathaYatra is celebrated in Diglipur. The main function, Shri Gundicha started with Mahapuja of Lord Jagannath in the morning on 1st July 2022 in RadhaGovindaMandir.

            Adorned in puja sarees and in barefoot, women devotees of Lord Jagannath went from Shree Shree DakshinaKaaliMandir to RadhaGovindaMandir in the afternoon to invite and take the Lord to his aunt. On this day, Lord Jagannath and his two siblings, Balaram and Subhadra, visit his aunt on the chariot with long sacred ropes on two sides pulled by devotees.

            The RathaYatra commenced at 04.30 pm. The procession set out from RadhaGovindaMandir and concluded at Dakshina Kali Mandir. The same ritual will also be followed at the time of the return of RathaYatra (Bahuda) on the Ninth day starting from 1st July 2022.

            Lord Jagannath’s chariot was colourfully decorated and the devotees pulled the Ratha and presented a spectacular show which portrayed the rich culture prevailing in our Islands in Diglipur.

            This year the RathYatra witnessed an exceptional crowd of devotees who were seen dancing and chanting kirtanas in tune and rhythm with the music of trumpets etc. However, the crowd and traffic were very tactfully managed and regulated by the Diglipur Police under the guidance of Mr. Stalin, SHO, Diglipur and overall supervision of Mr. R.K. Sharma, SDPO, Diglipur.

            RathYatra was organized jointly by RadhaGovindaMandir Committee and Shree Shree Dakshina Kali Mandir Committee, Diglipur. Mr. Goutam Biswas, President and Mr. BapiSaha, Secretary of Shree Shree Dakshina Kali Mandir Committee, Diglipur, announced that during this nine-day festival, puja-Archana will be held daily and there will be prasad distribution and anna-daanam for the devotees every day at noon.
