I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of these islands, especially to my sisters and brothers of Kerala, on the auspicious occasion of Onam.
Onam is celebrated to honor the memory of King Mahabali, the most renowned ruler of Kerala, whose compassionate and peaceful supremacy is believed to have brought peace and prosperity to the kingdom.
The colorful festival of flowers is an occasion for family and friends to get together and indulge in traditional games, music and dancing and participate in a grand feast, the ‘onasadya’. Onam is a celebration of material prosperity as well as values of honesty, integrity, kindness, sacrifice and happiness. It represents the capitulating of human ego and the achievement of inner-peace.
May this joyous festival usher in a new era of peace, prosperity and happiness in our Islands.
