ICAR- CIARI Conducts Training on Freshwater Ornamental Fish Breeding and Aquarium Techniques

Port Blair, Feb 28: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) in collaboration and financial support of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad conducted a skill development training on “Freshwater Ornamental Fish Breeding and Aquascaping Techniques” for the farmers, youth and SHG members at ICAR-CIARI, Garacharma during 25-27 February, 2019. The training programme was inaugurated by the chief guest of the function, Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI. In his inaugural address, he briefed about the potential of aquarium business, aquariculture and its allied activities. During the three day training programme, the participants were trained on selecting candidate ornamental fishes, breeding techniques, aquascaping, value addition, health management, tank preparation and feeding requirements. Dr. Kiruba-Sankar, R, Scientist, Fisheries Science Division in his address briefed about the business opportunities of ornamental fish farming, aquarium making and their potential enterprising opportunities in the Islands. Dr. Harsha Haridas, Scientist and Course Director along with other Scientists of Fisheries Science Division, ICAR-CIARI thanked the participants for attending the programme and motivated them to take up ornamental fish culture as backyard culture practices. A total of 52 trainees comprising 46 females and 6 males attended the training programme. The feedbacks of the trainees were also taken on the usefulness of training programme, in a press release said S.K. Zamir Ahmed, ICAR- CIARI, Port Blair.
