Implementation Of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin in A & N Islands

 

Port Blair, Mar 30: In a significant step towards realising the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s dream of ‘Housing for All by 2022’, the Department of Rural Development, A&N Administration has been persistently implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin, the flagship scheme of the Government of India across the Islands.
The aim is to provide a pucca house with basic amenities inclusive of a hygienic cooking space to the houseless and those living in kutcha houses. Under PMAY-G, the beneficiaries are provided unit assistance of Rs. 1.2 lakh along with 90 person days of unskilled labour wages through convergence with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Additionally, an incentive of Rs. 12,000 for construction of toilets through convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM-G) is also provided to the beneficiaries.
The happiness of 70 yrs old Shri. Lorahthush Xess who is dependent on old age pension for his living, speaks volume of gratitude on owning a house.
Shri. Lorahthush Xess is a beneficiary of PMAY-G residing at Gram Panchayat Beodnabad. Expressing his happiness with the completion of a new Pucca House, he no longer has to struggle with the dripping roof and the ordeal of overflowing water from nearby stream during rainy season that flooded the site of his existing kutcha house. Also, with the construction of the new house near the main road, the difficulty in commuting has been resolved as there was no proper approach way to his house, especially during rainy seasons due to water-logging.
Shri. Lorahthush Xess was sanctioned a house in the financial year 2017-18 and managed to complete the construction of house in a very short period with the assistance provided under PMAY-G. He is appreciative towards the efforts by the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBS as he can now provide a safe pucca house to his children.
