Inauguration of Souvenir Shop at Govt. Saw Mill, Betapur

Port Blair, Jun 29: A Souvenir Shop was inauguratedat Govt. Saw Mill, Betapur on 29th June 2022 by Mr. Satya Prakash Singh, IFS, DFO Rangat Division in presence of Mr. Dr.NikitSakiya, Assistant Commissioner, Rangat and PRIs of the region.

            Mr. Satya Prakash Singh, to implement the Idea of “AtmaNirbhar Bharat” into its ground reality. On the advice of the DFO, Mr. Jaison, ACF Betapur Saw Mill and its official urged the Pradhan of the Jurisdiction and shared their views that during the conversion of logs into utilizable sizes of timber, a good quantity of waste wood has remained unutilized to its full potential.

            The DFO Explained that the effective and maximum utilization of waste wood may make a tremendous impact on the society as well to the Department by the manufacturing of Souvenirs and other artifacts from the waste wood.

            DFO, Mr. Singh and ACF Mr. Jaison very categorically explained the objectives as follows: 1. For the innovative use of the Waste wood obtained from Logs after milling operation; 2. To add value to the waste wood and to generate revenue to Govt. the exchequer;3. To create employment opportunities among the talented youths of the rural areas; 4. To Encourage and provides an easy market for the local artisans of the region and 5. To brand the local products / wooden artifacts.

            DFO Singh further informed that under the “AtmaNirbhar Bharat” Scheme of GoI, five enthusiastic local youths including 03 Males and 02 Females were provided training in collaboration with the industries dept. He added that presently more than 200 artifacts and models are ready-made for sale and tourist attractions.

            The Concept of manufacturing Souvenirs in these remote areas is the first of its kind in the N&M Andaman District.             Dr.Sakiya, Assistant Commissioner Rangat and PRIs of the region highly appreciated the endeavour of the DFO and his Sawmill officials.
