14th April is observed as the Fire Service Day throughout the country in commemoration of those brave firemen who lost their lives during the Dock explosion at Mumbai on 14th April 1944. It is the day to acknowledge the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and invaluable service rendered by firemen to save precious human lives and loss of property every year.

The commitment with which Fire Service personnel strive to prevent loss of life and property is indeed appreciable. Being the first responder in any disaster, Fire Service personnel play a pivotal role in carrying out search and rescue operations.
In the year 2020, a total of 510 Fire Calls and 442 Special Service Calls were received in A&N Islands and property worth Rs. 31.97 crore approximately was saved. The Fire Service personnel played a significant role in saving lives and loss of property in major fire incidents at Junglighat, Prothrapur and Garacharma in the year 2020.
The A&N Police Fire Service has consistently displayed courage and professionalism in responding to emergency calls. I am confident that they will continue to dedicate their services to the citizens and serve them with zeal and commitment. They deserve wholesome praise and appreciation for their dedicated service.
On this occasion of Fire Service Day, I congratulate all personnel of the A&N Fire Service for their exemplary performance. I hope that the Fire Service Week from April 14 to April 20, 2021 will generate public awareness about fire safety and encourage residents of A&N Islands to take preventive measures.
