MP demands opening of Science stream at Ferrargunj and Arts stream at Swaraj Dweep

Port Bair, Sept 21: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has requested the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education), A&N Administration to introduce science stream and English Medium for Class XIth (+2 level) at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Ferrargunj during the academic session 2020-2021 for getting admission of Xth pass students of the same school which has secured 100% result during academic session 2019-2020.

The MP said that that Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat has been declared as Adarsh Gram under Saansad Adharsh Gram Yojana in Phase-I during 2016 and as per Village Development Plan, Science stream in the Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Ferrargunj was  required to be introduced.

However, the same is yet to be started till now and the students residing around the villages of Ferrargunj, Caddlegunj, Aniket, Miletilak, Jirkatang, Brindaban, Mathura, Shaitankhadi, Tushnabad etc. are facing hardships for studying science stream in other schools and due to non availability of science stream, most of the students are either compelled to get admission in Art stream in the same school.

Keeping in view of proposal made in the VDP of Sansad Aadharsh Gram Yojana and in the larger interest of the parents and students of the said school, the Member of Parliament sought   intervention of Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education) to examine the matter for feasibility for opening of Science stream and English Medium for Class –XI (+ 2 level) at Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Ferrargunj during the academic session 2020-2021.

Besides this, the Member of Parliament also requested the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education) to consider for opening Arts stream for +2 level at Govt. Sr. Secondary School, Swaraj Dweep from the academic year 2020-21 as the students passed Class –Xth during 2019-20 from the same school are facing hardship to get admission for Arts stream at Port Blair due to non availability of Arts stream in the same school and unable to bear the expenses for their study at Port Blair.
