National Webinar Series on entrepreneurship development through technological interventions

Port Blair, Oct 01: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, A&N Islands inaugurated National Webinar Series on Agricultural production and entrepreneurship development in Andaman Islands in COVID Scenario through Technological interventions on 01.10.2020. The webinar has been planned in collaboration with NABARD, PORT BLAIR from 1-23, October 2020. The webinar is organised to share the scientific and practical knowledge and technologies developed by institute for the entrepreneurship development by unemployed youth, self help groups and farmers producer organisation.

The webinar was inaugurated by Shri.V.Mashar, General Manager, NABARD, Port Blair as chief guest. During his address, he mentioned that this webinar is unique for sharing of all technologies in areas of agriculture, livestock and fisheries. He also pointed that collaboration of NABARD and ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair has implemented more than 27 development oriented projects in the Islands and has motivated SHGs and FPOs to come up openly to take up technologies developed by ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.

He also requested for collaboration with CIARI for bankable projects for upscaling the CIARI technologies that will be the real service to the nation and asked to think of more webinars like this for the benefit of others. Dr.B.Augustine Jerard, Director, ICAR-CIARI presided over the function. He briefed about the activities of the CIARI for enhancing the productivity and socio economic upliftment of farmers/stakeholder through various technology options and he pointed about the various technologies suitable for the start-ups for island ecosystem. Dr.Jai Sunder, convener of the webinar briefed about the background and theme of the webinar and convened the programme.

Dr.T.Sujatha, organising secretary delivered the welcome address and briefed about the webinar. Shri. D.Karunakaran, coordinator of the webinar proposed vote of thanks. A total of 20 scientists will share their scientific and practical knowledge and technologies towards entrepreneurship development on daily sessions. They will cover all the technologies of agri-horti-livestock and fisheries.  A total of 126 participants from around the country have registered for the webinar and a total of 42 participants attended today on the topic on climate resilient coconut varieties for value addition by Dr.B.A.Jerard.  All the registered participants can attend the webinar based on the topic of their interest from 3.30 to 4.30 pm.
