NISD Sponsored Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Students Concludes in JNRM

Port Blair, Mar 20: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, NSS Units No.1 & 4 in association with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organized One day Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Students and valedictory programme in JNRM on 18th March 2023.

The Chief Guest Mr. Sanjay Singh, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad has said that mental determination is more important to keep oneself away from drug abuse and addiction. Due to the drugs, not only myself but the entire family gets affected. The intervention programmes for the vulnerable people are important for which community participation and public cooperation is important. Mr. Sanjay Singh said collective initiatives among individuals and groups is required for which the students’ role is very important. 

Dr. H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM, exhorted the students to have strong determination against drug abuse in any form and leave no stone unturned to fight against this evil.  Further the students should reaffirm themselves and have commitment to achieve social goals, he said. Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Home science and Convener of this programme spoke on the role of students in Drug Abuse Prevention and they are vital in reaching out to a larger community through Social media.  Social media like Facebook, Twitter & Instagram can be effectively utilized to spread the message among the people, he said.

Dr. Kandimuthu, Assistant Professor and Co-Convener handled the technical session on the role of Yuva Mandals, NYKS & NSS Volunteers, and Youth Clubs for drug free society. Further he has highlighted that Awareness generation programmes in the community and Youth is important through community outreach. Followed by Dr. Mitesh Behari, Psychiatrist spoke on psychiatric care during rehabilitation and withdrawal symptoms. Dr. Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks. Mrs. Poonam Ajay Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme. Altogether 100 students took part in the programme.
