Port Blair, Sept 20: An Open Chess Tournament was organised by the Victory Youth Club Lall Barrack, Dairy Farm in collaboration with Andaman Nicobar Chess Association on Sunday the 19th September 2021 at Multipurpose Hall, GPRA , CPWD, Ranchi Basti, Dairy Farm. All safety norms for COVID were adhered during the entire tournament.
The competition was open to all for the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. More than 90 players of various age groups were participated in the event. Mr. Kumar Amritesh, CLS Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central), Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoI, Dollygunj was the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony who made the first Move on the top board to kick start the event in presence of Commandant A K Seshu Srimannarayana, Indian Coast Guard& Tanveer Singh , Vice President ANCA who graced occasion as a guest of Honours.
The tournament was held in Rapid mode over 6 rounds inwhich P S Satish adjudged as the winner of the tournament who scored six points in six rounds. Shailender Singh & Anil R scored five & half points each and adjudged as second & third respectively. T Rama Rao and V Yashwant scored points each and stood as fourth and fifth position. The top five players in open section were awarded with cash prize, medals and certificates. The two best players from boys and girls in U-08, U- 10, U-12 and U 14 were also awarded with cash prize and certificates.
Earlier in the opening ceremony, the participants of the National Online Chess Championship-2021 of various age-wise category held in the month of June, July & August 2021 were felicitated for their splendid performance with medals and gifts sponsored by the social activist Mr. Balakrishna, who himself was a very good chess player of his time.
Mr. H. Dinesh, IA was the chief arbiter for the tournament who presented the Arbiter’s report at the end of the event and also gave away two chess boards along with pieces as a goodwill gesture to the President, Victory Youth Club Dairy Farm for the promotion of game of Chess in the vicinity.
