Port Blair, July 12: The Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs under the leadership of Secretary (RD) has taken the initiative of planting fruit-bearing saplings in the building campus of all CD Blocks and Gram Panchayats of this UT. Under the initiative, over 400 fruit-bearing saplings of Mangoes, Guavas, Oranges, Lemon, Jack Fruit, Tamarind, Sweet Apple, Coconut, Cashew Nut etc. were planted in a week across rural areas as well as in the building campus of different offices working under the Department of RD, PRIs & ULBs.
As part of the initiative, the Department is also working towards the beautification of the Solid Waste Management Clusters situated across the Islands. Towards this endeavour, fruit and flower saplings are planted in the SWM Clusters also. More such initiatives are being planned to be carried out in the coming days across the offices under the Department.
