Re-engage all the 256 Short Term Contract teachers: MP

Port Blair, Aug 02: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to re-engage all the 256 Short Term Contract teachers for the academic session 2020-2021 whose term of engagement has been concluded on the last day of academic year 2019-2020 i.e. on 30.04.2020.

He said that in addition to 72 Short Term Contractor Teachers, there are also 184 Short Term Contract Teachers whose term of engagement has been concluded on the last day of academic year 2019-2020 i.e. on 30.04.2020 and the facts and circumstances of these 184 Short Contract Teachers are similar to 72 Short Term Contract teachers as reflected in his earlier letter dated 27th July, 2020 wrote to Chief Secretary. Hence, all together there are 256 Short Term Contract Teachers who are continuously engaged by the Directorate of Education for teaching in the schools of A&N Administration located in the remote Islands since from academic session of 2017-2018 upto last academic year 2019-2020 i.e. 30.04.2020.

Therefore, he requested that these 184 Short Term Contract Teachers along with 72 persons may be re-engaged for the current academic session 2020-2021 considering the unprecedented nature of circumstances arising due to COVID-19 scenario and the need of imparting education to the students residing in rural areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the prevailing circumstances.
