Remonstration on Engagement of Senior Employees for the Covid 19 related duties

Port Blair, August 17: The General Secretary of CITU Andaman and Nicobar state commission, Mr, B. Chandrachoodan has objected against engagement of employees of more than 50 years of age for the Covid 19 related duties.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar administration and the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Port Blair, the General Secretary of CITU said that it was made known that government employees and workers of age above 50 are rendered with Covid-19 duties. Multifarious aged workers of Port Management Board and Andaman Labour Force are engaged with sanitisation chores in Port Blair with the help of PPE kits, he added. In some definite cases , not only that the employees with only two to three years of service on retirement benefits are performing the Covid-19 duties but also, are undergoing medical treatments as well. He concluded saying, the feasible chance of infecting the senior employees needs to be staved off and with that sound and healthy employees should supplant.
