Scientists Farmers Interaction meet at Shoalbay conducted by ICAR-CIARI

Port Blair, July 25:  Scientists –farmers’ interaction meet was held on 22.07.2021 at Shoalbay in the presence of Dr.E.B.Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI. It is noteworthy to mention that community based mini incubator has been established at farmer’s field, Shoalbay under Biotech kisab hub. Through regular skill developmental programmes, the hatching facility is being utilized by farmers to hatch out their own desi poultry chicks, ducklings and quail chicks.  Director expressed his happiness that farmers are getting benefitted from the mini incubator facility and congratulated for the initiation to be self-reliant for the availability of the desi poultry chicks. He urged the farmers to create farmers producers organization involving youths of that area for production of desi chicks and establish market linkage in commercial way. He informed that institute will provide good germplasm of Andaman local goat in that area and suggested to establish a nucleus stock. He also stated that the feed constraint problem will also be sorted out through establishment of mini feed mill and encouraged youths to install such type of feed mills in that area to produce livestock and poultry feed under the guidance of scientists.  Dr.Jai Sunder, Pr.Scientist and Hub facilitator briefed about the objective of the biotech kisan hub to improve the livelihood and socio-economic upliftment through rural poultry production and goat farming. Dr.D.Bhattacharya, HoD (I/c), Animal Science Division highlighted the significance of Ranikhet disease vaccine and biosecurity measures to be adopted in the rural poultry production. Dr.T.Sujatha, Sr.Scientist and Dr. A.K. De, Scientist, coordinated the whole programme. During the programme, Smti. Rani Anbumalar, a successful farmer who is farmer fellow ambassadaor of biotech kisan hub narrated her story success story of becoming a role model for supply of rural chikcs to the farmers of the locality. She expressed her gratefulness to the CIARI for providing technical backstopping and also expressed gratitude that the first Director of CIARI visited the place of Shoalbay and thanked scientific team of CIARI. During the meeting, Director and the team visited the mini incubator facility and also distributed chicks and also vegetables seeds to the to the beneficiaries.
