Shaheed Dweep demands CANI SMC connectivity

Port Blair, August 16: The Pradhan of Shaheed Dweep, South Andaman has necessitated for the connectivity of the CANI Submarine Optical Fibre Cable with the Island. He also asked for the melioration of the existing bandwidth for sufficient internet speed until the OFC connectivity is provided.

 

In a letter addressed to the Chief General Manager, BSNL Port Blair Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the State President, BJP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the MP Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Port Blair, the Pradhan said that, the Islanders of Shaheed Dweep are pensive to be excluded from the telecommunication welfare.

 

It is considered to be a demoralizing factor for them on the connectivity project of CANI Submarine OFC. The island which survives on the tourism ground alone has been kept off of the competition by such decision, he added.

 

He further mentioned that, in this pandemic situation, the island is abrupted from the rest of the world, both for the transportation and communication services. Whereas, even the telephone calls are not viable due to the poor network issue, let alone the students who are reckoning the online system for admission, academics and for unemployability.

 

On behalf of the islanders of Shaheed Dweep, Mr. Biswas said that the people are in a state of agony because of “No Network Coverage Area”.
