State Level Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Faculties held in JNRM by Department of Home Science and NISD

Port Blair, Oct 18 : The Department of Home Science, JNRM in association with the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organised a State Level Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for College Faculties  in JNRM on 18th October 2019 which was inaugurated by Mr.D.Manikandan, IAS, Secretary (Education), A & N Administration as Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering he congratulated the Department of Home Science, JNRM for taking lead role in organising such workshop and  he dealt at length on the subliminal nature of human behaviour and how addictions be combated by its study. He advised that all faculties should join as a group to evolve a methodology for prevention of drug abuse among the students in a clandestine manner. Environmental cue  also plays pivotal role to prevent the abuse of drugs, he opined. Dr.N.Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM thanked the Secretary for the support extended to educate the young minds through their teachers concerned. Dr.S.Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL highlighted the impact of the previous such training programme and benefits reaped by the student community. Mr.J.Mukhesh Kumar, Counsellor, TTK Hospital and De-addiction Centre Chennai dealt in detail about the various forms of drug abuse and its preventions. The case  study of different categories of drug users and their rehabilitations was also explained by him through powerpoint presentation. Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme briefed gathering of an activities carried out the under the aegis of NISD through JNRM for drug abuse prevention and welcomed the gathering. Smt.Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant  Professor and Co-Convener of the programme proposed vote of thanks. Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person of Home Science moderated the entire programme. Altogether 100 faculties from ANCOL, DBRAIT, DIET, Andaman Law College, ITI and JNRM took part in the programme.
