“Swachhta Hi Sewa” Campaign by Indian Coast Guard

Port Blair, Sept 29: Indian Coast Guard is celebrating the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign between 11 Sep  to 02 Oct 19 throughout the Isles, spreading the GoI flagship programme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Under this campaign, Indian Coast Guard is conducting various special cleanship drives aiming to spread awareness and implementation across the Coast Guard establishments, Government schools and fishing community hamlets with a focus on role of women and children to take a lead role for community led swachhta initiatives within society.  The possible areas towards “Swachhta Abhiyan” includes public beaches, cleaning of in and around areas of Coast Guard establishment/residential places and awareness campaign at various Govt schools, public parks and beaches frequently visited by people.

Special coastal cleanship drives were conducted at various beaches of Port Blair including  Corbyn’s Cove, Junglighat, Marina Park, Chidiyatapu and Wandoor beach on 28 Sep 19 by the Ships and establishments of Coast Guard Region (A&N) with a special emphasis on plastic and other beach wastes. Deputy Inspector General Mukesh Purohit, TM, Chief of staff, Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N) lead the campaign at Corbyn’s Cove and stressed upon the importance of clean beaches and preserving the fragile marine ecosystem in these pristine lsands.  Officers, men, civilians and families including children were actively participated in the programme. Approximately 1400 kgs of garbage were collected and handed over to PBMC for disposal. The event was witnessed and applauded by locals and tourists.
