Port Blair, May 01: As part of the ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating the 75 Years of India’s independence and complying with the directions of the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, all Gram Panchayats in the Islands conducted massive clean-up drives on 01st May 2022 under Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen towards its vision to eradicate all types of wastes, to ensure proper Solid and Liquid Waste Management and to make all rural areas visibly clean to realize the goal of Zero Waste Islands. PRI members, officials, and civil society members actively took part in the drives.
The collected wastes were sent to SWM Cluster for further onward processing and recycling through authorized recyclers. Awareness and sensitization were also carried out for the participants towards the safer and smart way of handling waste.
Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary (RD), and Director (RD); Mr. Vinay Kumar Jindal also took part in one such event in Mithakhari. The Secretary exhorted the general public to inculcate good civic behavior and work for hand in hand with the Administration for a Clean and Green Andaman.
