20th Anniversary Celebrations: Cycling for Health by CPS

Port Blair, Oct 08: In continuation of its 20th Anniversary Celebrations, Crescent Senior Secondary School, Wimberly Gunj organized a Cycle rally with the theme – Cycling for Health on 7th Oct 2018 from Wimberly Gunj Junction to Wright Myo Jetty. Around 50 students from the school participated in the rally which was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Mr. Murali Shankaar K. IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Murali Shankaar highlighted the aspects of environmental degradation due to excessive use of fossil fuels and encouraged the students and gathering to reduce carbon footprint by adopting sustainable and eco-friendly transport modes like cycling. He appreciated the initiative of the school and also expressed his happiness over the interest of the students in cycling in an era, when the young generation is turning towards mobikes.
The cycle rally also had a tableaux featuring Esow Alben, the star cyclist of the nation from the Islands, who created history by winning silver medal in Junior Track Cycling World Championship in 2018.
Mr. E Saira Banu, Principal presented a memento to the Chief Guest.
Mr. Shameer ishaque, Physical Education Teacher welcomed the guests and the students and elucidated the importance of cycling as a tool to maintain healthy body as well as adopting cycling as a profession. Mr. M K Mohammed, Secretary, Islamic Welfare Society while proposing vote of thanks informed that the school has chalked out various programmes throughout the year as part of its 20th Anniversary celebrations.
