ASA Celebrates 20th International Mother Language Day

Port Blair, Feb 22: Andaman Sangeet Academy (ASA) Junglighat, Port Blair, celebrated the “20th International Mother Language Day” on 21st February 2019 Thursday. The programme was  arranged at Junglighat, Port Blair at 6.30 PM. Mr. S. K. Singh, retired Principal of Education Dept., A & N Administration was the Chief Guest to grace the occasion.

Mr. Pranab Banerjee, retired Head Master of Education Dept., A & N Administration was the Guest of Honor and Mr. Apurba Chandra Roy, Pramukh, South Andaman was Chief Speaker.

The Function was inaugurated with the floral tribute to “Bhasha Sahid Smarak Mancha” by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Chief Speaker and other dignitaries. The President of Andaman Sangeet Academy (ASA). Mr. Tapas Kumar Das, welcomed the gathering. Smt. Namita Home Chowdhury member of academy who was sang “Aamar bhaier rokte rangano ekushe February” which was a most appropriate song for the occasion.  The Guest of Honor, Mr. Pranab Banerjee highlighted the theme of the programme elaborating the achievement of the movement. Mr. Apurba Chandra Roy, Chief Speaker analyzed the various dimensions of language movement and sacrifices of the persons who laid down their lives to establish the sanctity of mother tongue.

The programme concluded by Mr. S. K. Singh, Chief Guest who highlighted various steps taken by the people of Bangladesh and of the Bengali people spread over the country who fought for the existence of Bangla language and mother tongue which was later on taken up by the International Organization UNESCO which universalized the mother tongues of all the countries giving common impetus and importance of the mother tongue, Mr. Partha Das highlighted the actual matter in front of gathering. The members present on the occasion were spellbound to listen to the speeches of all the three speakers.

The programme concluded at 8.30 PM with the vote of thanks by Mr. Soumen Home Chowdhury, the General Secretary of Andaman Sangeet Academy (ASA), Junglighat, Port Blair said.
