CEO A & N Islands Visits Kamorta to Oversee on Ground Election Related Arrangements

Port Blair, Feb 28: Mr. K. R. Meena, Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman & Nicobar Islands visited Nancowry group of Islands yesterday (Feb.27, 2019) to ascertain poll preparedness for the ensuing Lok-Sabha Election-2019. During the visit, an election preparedness-cum-sensitization programme was conducted at EOC, Conference Hall, Kamorta, which was attended by all the Sector officers, Local HoO’s, BLO’s and officials of various other departments working in these Islands. Mr. Vinay Kumar Jindal, Assistant Commissioner Nancowrie welcomed the Chief Electoral Officer and explained poll preparedness and arrangements made in Nancowrie Sub-Division for the General Election.

Mr. K, R. Meena, in his key note address stated that the Election Commission of India has taken various initiatives to facilitate registration of all un-registered eligible voters in the E-roll by providing National Voters Service Portal (NVSP), Voters Helpline app, deputing BLO’s at each polling stations and also by organizing special camps, which has been fruitfully accomplished recently on 23rd & 24th February, 2019. He further dwelt upon the motto of the Commission that “No Voters to be left Behind”, so that all the eligible voters could actively participate to strengthen the building up of democracy in the Country.

The CEO further explained that the Commission has made many user-friendly applications, which could be easily used by the voters for registration of their names in the Electoral roll, viz. Voter Helpline app (Android) and National Voters Service Portal (NVSP). He also informed that the voters, who are not having internet facility could use voters helpline number 1950 for obtaining information for registration of their names in the Electoral Roll. The helpline is functioning at District headquarter, Car Nicobar and UT level at Port Blair. The voter could seek information on the registration details as well as lodge election related complaint through the helpline.

The CEO stated that the Booth Level Officer’s of respective polling stations are the key persons who represent the Commission at grass root level, whose assistance could be availed by every eligible voters for registration of their name in E-roll. He stressed upon the need for creating more awareness among the local populace of the area by conducting Nukad Natak as a part of SVEEP activities towards achieving the motto of Commission “No Voter to be left Behind”.
