Coast Guard Observes Environment Day

Port Blair, June 06: World Environment Day was observed by Indian Coast Guard at Port Blair on 05 Jun 19through various programmes including Tree plantation Drive and sensitizing local populace on the importance of keeping environment pristine.

Plantation drive was conducted in and around Coast Guard Premises at Port Blair with an aim to create enthusiasm amongst masses towards forest conservation and afforestation, wherein, a total of 600 saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted. The full CG fraternity based at Port Blair including their families joined hands in this noble cause for betterment of environment to beat increased pollution in recent decade.

After the conclusion of the plantation drive, all the attendees were apprised about the necessity to preserve and protect fragile environment of the islands through prevention of use of plastic and employment of energy efficient means and segregation of waste. The event also saw whole hearted participation by local children who were felicitated by the Coast Guard on culmination of the event. Inspector General Manish Vishal Pathak, Commander Coast Guard Region Andaman and Nicobar, who also participated in the tree plantation drive, exhorted all the CG families to keep up the tempo in their endeavours towards protecting the environment of these fragile Islands.
