Coastal Green Zone organizes programmes for children of McCarthy Valley

Port Blair, Nov 08: The children of McCarthy Valley, a settlement in the remote forest area of Kadamtala, Middle Andaman participated in “sit-draw-color” and story-telling session organised by “Coastal Green Zone, a voluntarily run initiative to conserve coastal and terrestrial ecosystem and organised Sunday outdoor classes for the children.
The children in the age group of 5 to12 years made pictures of mud houses, paddy fields, green forests with vibrant colours. Santosh,a student of class VII, had drawn a picture of rhinoceros which he had never seen but wants to see in real life.
Painting and drawing is an important outlet for children who do not yet have the verbal skills to communicate their feelings.
In this session a moral story “The Boy and the Drum” was narrated to participants. They had listened to the story attentively. After the session children shared their views regarding the moral of the story.
Storytelling encourages and enhances the listening skills of children and which provides them necessary training to listen and understand more, instead of talking. In the concluding session children presented a melodious Ranchi song.
