Commissioner for Workmen Compensation sanctions compensation to private laborer

Port Blair, July 3:  The Commissioner for Workmen Compensation, Port Blair has awarded compensation to a private laborer who met with an accident while working recently. According to a communication received here from the Commissioner for Workmen Compensation, late Gujju Sridhar, aged 29 years was a working in M.V. Albagross-19 which was undergoing repairs in the old dry dock of Shipping department got electrocuted during the hydro jet cleaning of bottom of the ship on June 7, 2018.

 

Considering the incident and claim received under the EC Act, the Commissioner for Workmen Compensation, Port Blair heard the parties in person and passed order for payment of compensation of Rs.8.40 lakh which the opposite parties i.e. Contractor and Principal Employer deposited with the CWC by cheque and further disbursed it to the dependent of deceased employee Smti. G. Rajeswari on July 1, 2019.

 

If personal injury is caused to any employee employed in any trade and business activities, by accident, arising out of and in the course of employment, his employer shall be liable to pay compensation in accordance with the provisions of the Employees Compensation Act. The employees have been asked to submit claim to the Labour Commissioner, in case of accident, for immediate release of compensation under the proviso of the Act.
