DHS Inaugurates Pulse Polio Immunization Programme 26260 children Administered polio Vaccine Today

Port Blair, Mar 10: The Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Andaman and Nicobar Administration inaugurated the National Immunization Day (NID) round of Pulse Polio Immunization Programme today in a function at G B Pant Hospital Auditorium.

On the first day of the drive, total 26260 children out of targeted 27454 children in the age group of 0-5 years have been administered with polio vaccine in the Isles. 95.68% target has been covered on day one. Total 17196 (95.1% coverage) children have been vaccinated in South Andaman District whereas 6376 (96.6% coverage) and 2688 (96.6% coverage) children have been vaccinated in North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar District respectively on the first day. This will be followed by two days of house to house visit on 11th and 12th March 2019.

A total of 27,474 children in the age group of 0-5 years were targeted to be administered with polio vaccination in 588 booths across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during this round.  Booths at airport, Sea-port and other transit point were also set up.  All tourists and people living in forest area were covered under this program.

As per the recommendations of the India Expert Advisory Group (IEGA), one Single Polio National Immunization Day (NID) was conducted on 10th March 2019, covering all the children in the age group of 0-5 years of age by administering two drops of bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at Booths. It will be followed by house to house visits by the staffs in the next two days to search and vaccinate the missed out /unimmunized children”.
