Port Blair, Mar 15: Field day cum- demonstration program on application of CIARI-Bioconsortia for bacterial wilt disease management in brinjal was conducted at ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Port Blair on 12 March 2019 in coordination with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman. A total of 30 farmers from different villages of South Andaman attended the program and benefitted. Dr. B. Gangaiah Director (i/c), ICAR- CIARI appraised the farmers on importance of organic farming. Dr. R.K. Gautam and Dr. P.K. Singh highlighted the IPM technologies for better plant health management in the islands. Dr. K. Sakthivel and Dr. V.K. Pandey explained the methodologies on application of CIARI Bio-consortia and general biocontrol agents for better plant health management and interacted with the farmers about pest and disease problems in their fields and suggested non chemical management. All the farmers were brought to organic brinjal fields of FCIP division and suggested the remedial measures for their practical difficulties. Technical demonstrations were given by Dr. K. Venkatesan. The program was coordinated by Dr. K. Sakthivel Scientist (Plant Pathology) under the overall guidance of Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
