Field day cum success farmer’s meet on application of CIARI-Bioconsortia for bacterial wilt disease management in Brinjal

Port Blair, Mar 24: Field day cum farmer’s interactions on application of CIARI-Bioconsortia for bacterial wilt disease management in brinjal was conducted on 19 March 2019 in Webi village, Mayabundar by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Port Blair in coordination with Department of Agriculture, Mayabubdar. A total of 60 farmers from different villages of Mayabundar and line department officials attended the program and benefitted. Mr. Soundararajan, Assistant Director (Agriculture and Soil) appraised the farmers on importance of organic farming. Dr. V. Baskaran, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) highlighted the IPM technologies for better plant health management in the islands. Dr. K. Sakthivel and Dr. K. Venkatesan explained the methodologies on application of CIARI Bio-consortia and general bio-control agents for better plant health management. All the farmers were brought to success farmer’s organic brinjal fields and learnt the organic bacteria wilt disease management. Technical demonstrations were given by success farmer along with Dr. Chandan and Mr. Kannan, the officials of Department of Agriculture.

The program was coordinated by Dr. R.K. Gautam and Dr. P.K. Singh under the overall guidance of Dr. B. Gangaiah, Director (i/c), ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
