Fresh Encroachment reported from Mahavir Colony, Prothrapur

Port Blair, Oct 04: One 3rd October the representatives of Joint Action Forum (JAF) got information that some people are encroaching government allotment land near Mahavir Colony, Prothrapur.

According to JAF, one private labourer was allegedly found doing fresh encroachment in government allotment land and made two new huts. When local residents earlier tried to stop the said man, the encroacher turned aggressive and tried to attack them.

JAF youth coordinator, Mr. Sarwesh Kumar visited the area yesterday upon information and found out two new huts have been constructed next to an old encroachment and one family of four is residing in the newly made hut without electricity and water connections.

The matter was immediately informed to DC and within an hour one revenue official reached the spot and took information for preparing report to submit to the DC.

The revenue official reportedly said that since the land is government allotted land it doesn’t come under jurisdiction of Revenue Department hence the matter of eviction is upto the discretion of DC, SA.

Rampant encroachment is not a new thing in Andaman the area behind Radar Station of New Pahargaon has been completely encroached by encroachers and authorities have now made CC road and provided street lights for them. Hope atleast in this case action will be taken by authorities.
