Port Blair, Apr 04: Alertness and effort of the police of N&MA district is showing results. On Wednesday, a total of Rs. 4,90,370/- were seized by the district police from 04 different persons. The seizure is significant as the Election Day is approaching and there is a high probability that this money might have been carried to be used in election process. Seizure was made because the persons were carrying the cash in excess to the limits defined and could not give a proper justification for that.
The seizures were affected by the team consisting of ASI Salam, Head Constable Muthu Kani and Ramesh Kishen, Constable Rajavel, Sushil Sarkar, Ganesh Ch. Das, Neeraj, Soma Dey, KS Balaji Roy and Dinesh Jaiswal headed by SI V K Maurya, SI Jishi George and SI Debrata Raha during the picket checking in Diglipur area. An amount of Rs. 1,00,370/- was recovered from a person resident of Bashadek Village, Diglipur at around 1045 hrs. Similarly near about 1220 hrs a person was apprehended with an amount of Rs. 90,000/- near Power House at Sita Nagar Village. Later, at 1300 hrs a person was intercepted with an amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- near Nikhil Hospital, Krishnapuri Road and finally at 1510 hrs an amount of Rs. 2,00,000/- was recovered from an individual near Helipad at VS Pally village, Diglipur and the information about the seizure has been given to the Retuning Officer.
Superintendent of Police, N&MA District said that the police is working 24 X 7 to ensure a free and fair election. He said that the information is being collected about possible movement of cash and liquor and raids will be conducted in the coming days also. Strict vigil is being kept on the helipads, jetties and fish landing centers.
