IDCF to be Implemented in Isles from 28th May to 8th June, 2019

Port Blair, May 28: Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) will be implemented from 28th May to 8th June, 2019 in A&N Islands along with the rest of country with the unlimited aim of zero child death due to childhood diarrhea among under five children. Diarrhoeal deaths are usually clustered in summer and monsoon months and the worst affected are children from poor socio-economic situation.

Diarrhoea is considered when the stools have changed from usual pattern and is many and watery. Almost all the deaths due to diarrhea can be averted preventing and treating dehydration by the use of ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and administration of Zinc Tablets for 14 days along with adequate nutritional intake by the child during diarrhoea. Diarrhoea can be prevented with use of safe drinking water, hand washing, sanitation, immunization and breastfeeding /appropriate nutrition.

For effective implementation of IDCF -2019 , Health Department will conduct intensification of advocacy and awareness generation in community about diarrhoea, its prevention and control strengthen service provisions for diarrhoea case management, establishment of ORS and Zinc corners at Primary Health Centers, Community Health Center, District Hospitals and Anganwadi Centers, distribution of Oral Rehydration solution (ORS) by Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) to households with under five children.

In this connection, all Islanders are requested to join hands with health personnel for effective implementation of Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF -2019) to attain zero child death due to diarrhea under 05 children in A&N Islands.
