IGNOU RC-Port Blair conducted plastic free awareness drive at its adopted villages

Port Blair, Oct 03: As part of the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign initiated by the Prime Minister of India from 11th September 2019 to 02nd October 2019, the IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair has organized “Plastic Free awareness drive and campaign” at its adopted villages in Kodiyaghat, Rangachang, Burmanallah and Meethakhari.

At Kodiyaghat village, the programme was inaugurated by Smt. V.Shanthi the Pradhan of Burmanallah Grama panchayath presided by Smt S.Preethi the Panchayath Secretary.  This was followed by street plays and dances by students of Government Senior Secondary School, Bathubasti curbing the use of plastics. The staff of IGNOU, also participated in the programme.  Whereas at Rangachang, trees were planted by the students and staff in the Senior Secondary School premises along with a cleanliness drive by the staff of IGNOU RC Port Blair.   At Burmanallah, the staff of the Grampanchayat, Panchayati Raj Institution members and IGNOU staff along with the Pradhan Smti. V. Shanthi planted trees and performed a cleanliness drive on plastics.

At Meethakhari, an awareness talk on no to single use plastics was given by Dr.T.R.Satyakeerthy Assistant Regional Director followed by cleanliness drive by all the staff and students of Govt. Secondary School Ograbraj the IGNOU Staff and the gram panchayat staff. The Pradhan of Meethakhari Grampanchayat Shri. Mohammed Shafique inaugurated the programme presided by the Smt. Jahanara Begum and Panchayati Raj Institutions Members. A communication from Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair said.
