Independence Day Celebrated at Car Nicobar; Toppers of the AISSCE & AISSE felicitated

Port Blair, August 18: 73rd Independence Day was celebrated at Car Nicobar. The main function was held at Bishop John Richardson Stadium, Tamaloo, in which the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Dr Monica Priyadarshini hoisted the National Flag. Prior to the flag hoisting, homage was paid by the Deputy Commissioner Nicobar, to the Father of the Nation at Gandhi Chowk, Malacca.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the various projects and programmes that have been and are being implemented by the District Administration, Car Nicobar through various departments and agencies. She also launched the ITDP Logo on the occasion.  During the function, group dances and songs on the patriotic theme were performed by school children and various sports activities were organized. The stage was decorated fully in traditional Nicobarese style.

The Deputy Commissioner’s Commendation Certificate was awarded to the officers and officials working in various departments in Nicobar District in recognition of the good work done and dedication shown by them towards their duties and responsibilities in an efficient manner. During the function toppers of the AISSCE and AISSE for the academic year, 2018-19 were felicitated. The chief guest inaugurated the Handicraft Mela and Food Festival organized by Self-Help Groups and Anganwadi workers at Priyadarshini Auditorium, Tamaloo. The Children Park at Big Lapathy village, constructed under ITDP was also inaugurated in the presence of Tribal leaders.

In the evening inter-village Song and Inter-school dance, competitions were organized at BJR stadium, Car Nicobar and prizes were distributed to winners by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District.
