KVK, N&M Andaman Imparts Training to Fishermen at Nimbutala

Port Blair, Oct 12: ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman organized three days training programme on “Improved methods of marine fishing and maintenance of fishing gears” from 10th to 12th October 2018 at Fisheries Landing Centre at Nimbutala Gram Panchayat. The training was inaugurated by Mrs. K.Saravana Kumari, Pradhan, Nimbutala in presence of Mr. B. Chandraiah, Up-Pradhan, Dr. B.L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril. Engg.), Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries), Mr. M. Abdul Aziz, Dept. of Fisheries, PRI’s and participants. During the inaugural session Mrs. K. Saravana Kumari appreciated KVK for organizing need based trainings and motivated fishermen to make use of the training programme for improvement of their knowledge and skills. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Course Directors of training programme briefed the participants about contents of trainings and apprised them about practical demonstrations and film show to be conducted during the programme. Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head spoke about the role of KVK for upliftment of farming and fishermen community whereas, Er. Manoj Kumar welcomed the Guests and participants.
In the technical sessions of training programme topics covered were include rights and responsibilities of fishermen in sustaining fish harvest, conventional practices of fish harvest, improved methods of marine fishing for sustainable fish catch, code of conducts for responsible fisheries, methods of preserving and maintenance of fishing gear, maintenance of fishing boats and engines, fish processing and fish preservation techniques etc. by the resource persons like Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Er. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Tanmai Paul and Mr. Prasant Pradhan. Film shows on modern fish harvesting and preservation methods were showed to the participants. Use of different life saving and distress alert appliances ware demonstrated to the participants by Coast Guard, Mayabunder led by Dr. S. Vishnu and Mr. Raghvendra Pratap. Dr. Vishnu also discussed about different ways to cope up with heath related issues in sea. The training was organized under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 51 participants were attended and benefitted from above training programme.
