KVK Organises Training on Livestock Come Fish Based Integrated Farming System

Billiground, July 25: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), North & Middle Andaman organised three days training programme on “Optimisation of production efficiency of livestock cum fish integrated farming system” w.e.f 22nd July 2019 to 24th July 2019 at  Dukenagar, Gram Panchayat Swadeshnagar. The programme commenced in the presence of Mrs Geeta Roy, PRI-member, Gram Panchayat Swadeshnagar; Dr B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist and Head/ Course Director, KVK, N & M Andaman and other KVK officials. In the inaugural session,Mrs Geeta Roy thanked KVK for organising the programme in their village and urged the participants to adopt scientific agriculture practices. Speaking on the occasion, Dr B. L. Kasinath highlighted the importance of the integrated farming system and explained the advantage of Paddy cum Fish farming system. He told that under the guidance of KVK, Nimbudera, Mr Ashok Sarkar, a farmer from Govindpur village, Gram Panchayat Basantipur is successfully practising Paddy cum Fish culture in his farm. Dr Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course Co-ordinator informed the participants about the content of the training programme. He suggested the participants integrate livestock with fish farming as both the production system are complementary to each other. Dr Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) explained the need for care and management of pond for better production. He also discussed on the composite fish culture and standard fish breeding technique. In the three days training programme, the topic related to Duck cum fish farming, Pig cum Fish farming, Poultry cum Fish Farming, Goat cum Fish Farming and Cattle cum Fish Farming was discussed. In addition to this, film shows on “Azolla Cultivation” and “Scientific poultry farming” were also shown to the farmers by Mr Prashant Pradhan, Computer Programme (Assistant), and Mr Ravish Kataria, Technician, KVK, Nimbudera. In this programme, a total of twenty-five farmers including twenty-three farm women were benefitted. The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Nimbudera, and Dr A. Kundu, Director, CIARI.
