Port Blair, Dec 12: A request was received from the villages of Herbatabad to provide more convenient Transport facility to the female passengers residing in the area.
A survey was done by the Department wherein it was observed that the number of female commutes availing the public transport service is more as compared to the male commutes.
As per the direction of Secretary (Transport), a schedule was chalked out to provide a ‘Ladies only’ Bus service in the area. The Ladies only’ Bus was flagged off by the Secretary (Transport) on 12.12.2018 @ 8.30 AM at Herbatabad in the presence of Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad Member, Pradhan Collinpur, Pradhan Mithakhari, Sr. Citizen Shri Rebati Mondal and the local villagers. During the Flag off ceremony, the Secretary (Transport) laid emphasis on the role of Drivers/ Conductors in improving the image of the Department.
He appealed to the lady commuters to avail the facility extended by the Department. Initially, the ‘Ladies only’ Bus Service will be operated in the morning and evening especially for the benefit of school students and office goers. A
ll present in the function including the local villages lauded the efforts taken by the Transport Department in giving prompt attention to their request and further requested the Secretary (Transport) to extend the benefit of ‘Ladies only’ Bus service to the villagers of Tirur which was immediately accepted
