Lok Sabha Elections-2019 First round training for Presiding & Polling Officers of Port Blair & Ferrargunj Tehsils

Port Blair, Mar 24: The first round training for the Presiding Officers and the Polling Officers under Port Blair and Ferrargunj Tehsils was organized at the Dr. B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) auditorium.

Addressing the trainees, the Returning Officer Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai said that the Presiding Officers and the Polling Officers have a greater responsibility to ensure a free and fair polling at their respective polling stations on the Day of Poll i.e. April 11, 2019. Pointing that the ECI has given new instructions with regard to maintaining utmost transparency in the election, the RO urged the trainees to go through the handbook, so that they can perform their duties and responsibilities effectively to ensure free, fair & transparent elections in these Islands.

The RO informed that the second and third round training for Presiding Officers and the Polling Officers of Port Blair and Ferrargunj tehsils will be held on March 30 and April 6 respectively. The training for Presiding Officers and the Polling Officers of the N&M Andaman and Nicobar area will be held in their respective districts. He also urged the trainees to get acquaint themselves with the EVMs and VVPATs machines so as to ensure error free polling at the respective polling stations.

The Master Trainer, Mr. Som Naidu through a power point presentation covered topics such as general introduction to Election-2019, polling procedure,  materials to be checked and collected, checking and collection of EVMs, setting up of poll station, commencement of poll etc. besides do’s and don’ts. The Master Trainer also clarified doubts raised by the polling officials on the occasion. In the afternoon session, hands on training of EVMs & VVPAT machines were also organized by the master trainers.
